Modules on Periodontal Regeneration
The 2 following modules in sequence guide the participant through a learning curve that involves:
- the acquisition of state of the art competence (Theory).
- the acquisition of the practical skills (Hands-on surgical exercises).
I. Periodontal Regeneration. Theory, video demonstrations and discussion
(Saturday, 19 March 2016, 16:00–19:00)
Speaker: Pierpaolo Cortellini
- Clinical objectives, indications, limits and prognosis of periodontal regeneration
- Critical evaluation of periodontal regenerative materials
- Defect morphology and clinical objectives as key elements to select surgical flap design and materials
- Surgical instruments and materials
- The surgical approaches: papilla preservation flaps, microsurgery, minimally invasive surgery
- Post-operative regime and supportive care.
II. Periodontal Regeneration: acquisition of the Practical Skills. Hands-on surgical
Exercises on anatomical simulators
(Sunday, 20 March 2016, 9:00–13:00)
Speaker: Pierpaolo Cortellini
- Hands on in depth tutorial on surgical methods
- Modified papilla preservation flaps
- Simplified papilla preservation flaps
- Minimally invasive surgical techniques
- Single and multilayer internal mattress sutures
- Application of regenerative materials
- Presentation and discussion of clinical flow-charts
Exercises will be performed on specifically designed silicone models with step-by-step supervision by the speaker.
Each participant should have a magnification device/loupe with independent light source
(2.5 to 5 magnification).
